Offroad Adventures in Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is known for virgin beaches, sport fishing, scuba diving, happening nightlife, and world class golf courses; but what many people don’t know is that the desert landscape of Southern Baja is home to some of the most exciting offroad adventures. Los Cabos is famous for being the finish line of the popular Tecate Baja 1000 extreme race and tour guide companies have capitalized on the perfect natural resources for offroading adventures. Whether you want to jump on a dirt bike, ATV, or race a professional dune buggy, there are several options for different levels of excitement traversing the dry desert of Baja California.

Before you go

Safety: Just because you are in Mexico doesn’t mean safety is not the number one rule. You will be required to where helmets and goggles at all time and each tour company will explain their rules for trekking around Baja in an offroad vehicle. You’re guaranteed to get the adrenaline rush you are looking for but you will have to abide by rules just like in the U.S.

Protected Beaches: Baja California is serious about protecting the natural ecosystem and do not let offroad vehicles on the beaches in the tourist zone. Some tour guides will take you to some secluded beaches and let you roam around but ask if that is on the itinerary ahead of time if it is a priority of yours.

What to bring: Comfortable clothing, sun glasses, sun screen, camera, hat, hiking or tennis shoes (no flip flops or sandals), towel. Water and snack are generally provided but double check with your tour guide to ensure you aren’t left out in the desert dehydrated and hungry. Most tour companies end the tour at their gift shop, restaurant, or photo booth where you will want to have a little cash on hand for any souvenirs.

Age requirement: The minimum age requirement for dune buggy’s and 4x4 vehicles is 18 years. ATV rentals only require the driver to be 16 years old but they must have a signed parent’s consent. Children must be 3-4 years or older to ride along.

Cabo Offroading Costs

Almost all of the tour guide companies will offer half and full day excursions but if you are looking for a little extra adventure you can search out the extended tours ranging from 2-7 days of offroading around Baja. You can even try your hand at the entire Baja 1000 course if you’re up for the challenge. The following prices are just for the shorter trips ranging from 1 hour to a full day and a major credit card is usually required in case of damages.

  • Motorcycle = $175-$250
  • ATV = $80-$165
  • 4x4 Vehicle = $135-$650
  • Dune Buggy = $140-$595

Dear Bob, Many thanx for all your help/advice when speaking last evening as well as making the booking process extremely easy. Rest assured, I'll certainly be recommending you and your firm!! Let me know if you ever find yourself in NH!! Best regards, Michael

We had a GREAT trip! Hadn't been to Cabo in 9 years so we had HUGE sticker shock. Wondering how much of that was spring break or just that Cabo has gotten a lot more expensive. We felt that it was Hawaii prices. Wish we'd thought to do the discount card as you recommended. Just ran out of time. Wow, the town/highway/growth had changed. All good but somewhat sad to see all the American comforts (Walmart, Costco, Home Depot). Thankfully the water and people were still exceptionally authentic. The resort was amazing. Our suite was just perfect for the 7 of us - plenty of room, nice to have washer and dryer, comfortable beds, great shower pressure. At first we were sad to not be located on a higher floor and right behind the pirate ship but it ended up being a great location for the kids going back and forth to the room. What we loved most, having spent all our vacations at Palmar, was how quiet and secluded Arcos felt and wasn't filled with drunk spring breakers (there were plenty on the beach on either side of us, but Arcos felt like its own little Oasis). We loved the trolly to the market and access to the whale slide. The pools at Arco were clean and maintained and the beach in front was clean and cared for and the vendors were not pushy at all but rather fun to talk to. Amazing, friendly service. Highlights: Mariano the bellman, Leticia the massage therapist at the spa, all the receptionists at the workout room/spa, our housekeeper who put up with 5 boys, Horatio who gave us the tour but was not high pressure to buy (although we seriously considered it). The hospitality suite and workout rooms were great, clean, up to date. The spa was luxurious beyond belief. I would have forgone food the entire week just to spend a few days there. The food in both restaurants and Tortuga at Palmar was average so we ate mostly in town and at Office and at Mango Deck. We rented a car and went to Cerritos and Todos Santos. What a great day and I'd highly recommend that. Overall A+. We would love to rent from you again, but at non-peak season. Do you have places in other resorts around the world? Meg

Hi Bob..... We had a great time in Cabo...Loved the accommodations, the rooms were great. Loved the view of Land's End. The food was the best I've had at an all-inclusive, as were the drinks. When I ordered a beer it came in a can, not a dixie cup. It was a little confusing at first on what was included, because we had to sign for everything, but got that figured out, and was no problem. Will definitely stay here again. I am planning a trip for about 6 couples, so if you could send me some information to pass on that would be great. Thanks for all you help. Patsy

Bob our stay way amazing...thanks again. You are a class act and this was a great gesture. The service was great to use on the way back. We will for sure use them again on our next trip.

I wanted to just send you a little note thanking you for being so great to work with on our vacation. We had an absolute blast! It was everything you said it would be and you delivered on all your promises too. That is VERY important these days. Our next vacation is going to be somewhere in the Caribbean so if you can facilitate that, we would love to go through you again. Also, we would entertain a cruise there as well.

I wanted to thank you for everything you did to help out with our trip. We had a wonderful time and 1208 was in a very convenient place. I will be contacting you very soon to book for 2012 and we either need a bigger unit or will be booking two 2 bedroom units.

We had not had a family holiday in almost 5 years. I was looking for a place that had it all, easy to get to, 5-star accommodations, ocean views, easy access to a safe beach, family friendly and a vacation that wouldn't break the bank. When I found Bob Easton's site I felt I had hit the jack pot! Bob was absolutely wonderful, very kind, full of information and so easy to work with. The Villa del Palmar was everything Bob told us it was and more. I loved the accommodations, the kids loved the beautiful pools and the beach. We went snorkeling, on boat trips and a magical horseback ride along the beach at sunset. I visited the spa and had an amazing massage. The people are all so friendly. It was like being in Paradise. We had a fun, relaxing trip that we will remember for a long time. You have got to go and experience it for yourself. Tell Bob, Rosie sent you! We thoroughly enjoyed our first trip to Cabo. The accommodations were exceptional--loved 1707--view was breathtaking from the balcony. Did not really realize the topography of the area--were very surprised by the mountain, desert, and sea views. Loved our panga ride around Lands End. My husband and I had the king bedroom and bath and were very comfortable. The main living area was awesome except for the fact that the dishwasher was broken--discovered it by a wet kitchen floor when we arrived. We called maintenance and they came immediately, but the dishwasher was not useable. It ended up not being a problem because of the every other day maid service--she washed the dishes for us. The couple we were with had the second bedroom and I think they were just a little disappointed after seeing our accommodations with the king bedroom and bath. Tried some of your recommendations for restaurants and absolutely loved Salvatore's--great food at great prices. Asked the concierge for a recommendation for an authentic Mexican restaurant with reasonable prices and found Maria Coronas to be an excellent choice. Spent Valentine's dinner at Ruth's Chris (our favorite American dining spot) and were not disappointed as usual--food and service there is always replicated. Spent a lot of time at the beach bars (The Office, Billygans, and Mango Beach Deck)--great Cabo atmosphere. Also liked shopping in the marina area. We feel that the $7 cab ride to the mall area was well worth the expense--walking the streets with occasional sidewalks was scary at times. Thanks for allowing us to use your condo--overall our first experience in Cabo was very memorable. Sincerely, Beth M

Hi Bob, the trip was great. The resort gave us a free upgrade to a suite with a full kitchen and separate master bedroom. And the back patio was huge and we had a hot tub in the backyard area. It was incredible. We never sat through any sales pitches. Just had a great time. Thanks for everything. Melynda
